The most comprehensive
London show of Christiane Baumgartner’s work to date, Reel Time
will include a new monumental print, Luftbild (Triptychon), which, at
almost 7m, will cover an entire wall at Alan Cristea’s 34 Cork Street
gallery. Baumgartner’s work is a unique fusion of traditional
woodcut techniques and video and asks us to take a moment in a world of
ever-increasing speed to reflect on the simple and the everyday, such as a
ploughed field in snow or a reflection in water.
The exhibition will also include the artist’s signature woodcut from 2002,
Transall (over 4m long), editions of which are in the collections
of the Albertina, Vienna, the Museum der bildende Künste Leipzig, the
Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Zabludowicz Collection, London.
