Artists are invited to submit works of art or objects of any medium, nature, quantity, duration or scale to be part of the upcoming exhibition “The Popular Show” held at the Townhouse Gallery. “The Popular Show” is a general exhibition, which offers everyone the opportunity to show their work, or works in their collection, within a contemporary art context. “The Popular Show” responds to the exclusivity that is practiced within contemporary art institutions, towards what art is.
This exhibition offers up the art space to the public, who collectively determine the content of the show through the works they submit. “The Popular Show” is a display of the variety and excess of works of art, without demarcating a distinction between high and low art, art and non-art, serious and pop-art.
“The Popular Show” is an exhibition experiment that allows for a participatory and collective definition of the gallery space by the public.
“The Popular Show” is curated by Sarah Rifky/CIRCA in collaboration with Townhouse Gallery.
