Photographic Memory: The Album in the Age of Photography (May 2011) –  An extraordinary and comprehensive illustrated history that traces the rise of the album from the turn of the century to the present day. Showcasing some of the most important examples of the medium collected by the Library of Congress, from an Alaskan expedition to the work of famous photographers, including Walker Evans, Duane Michaels, Jim Goldberg, Danny Lyons, and among others. Edited by Verna Posever Curtis, curator of photography in the Prints & Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. Copublished with the Library of Congress.

The Suffering of Light, Alex Webb (May 2011) – The first comprehensive monograph charting the career of acclaimed American photographer Alex Webb.  Best known for his spectacular use of color and compositional geometry, this survey gathers his most iconic images taken around the world, along with previously unpublished work, bringing a fresh perspective to his extensive catalog and emphasizing the complexity and beauty of his work. Essay by author Geoff Dyer.

Fieldwork, Sanna Kannisto (May 2011) – Finnish photographer and “visual researcher” Kannisto explores the dialects of nature and culture in both artistic and scientific contexts. She has been working alongside biologists of Latin American rain forests where she developed her own form of visual research, addressing the acts of staging and image-making. Her work investigates the concept of truth photography to challenge how we view and "know" the natural world. Essay by Steve Baker, who has written widely on the representation and use of animals in contemporary art. This is her first monograph and solo exhibition in New York!

Illuminance, Rinko Kawauchi (June 2011) –One of the most innovative newcomers to contemporary photography, not just in Japan, but across the Globe. Illuminance is the latest volume of Kawauchi's work, and the first to be published outside of Japan and is an impressive compilation of previously unpublished images. Kawauchi’s unique sensibility and nuanced palette captures the beauty of ordinary moments. Essay by curator, writer and former director of Photoworks David Chandler.
Exhibition:
Hermes Foundation Gallery, New York
May 21-July 16, 2011

Penelope Umbrico (Photographs) (June 2011) – Umbrico views herself as a “contemporary documentary photographer,“ but her territory is not the street, war zones, or landscapes, but rather the printed and virtual world of consumer culture, which she explores obsessively. Images from the Internet and mail catalogs are the source material for her work and where her isolating image typologies are discovered. While the central theme is consumerism, her work deals with authorship, copyright, appropriation, and visual literacy. Accompanied by a series of essays, appendices of source material, excerpts from theoretical works and resources for engaging further with the work and issues involved.

Core Curriculum: Writings on Photography, Tod Papageorge (June 2011) – A collection of essays, reviews and lectures from Tod Papageorge, the Walker Evans Professor of Photography at Yale University School of Art. An eloquent and illuminating guide to the work of many of the most important figures in twentieth-century photography. Also includes a  number of interviews, ranging in topic from his own photographic work and background in poetry to his energetic observations on the art of photography.

Sneak peek of Fall 2011!
Josef Koudelka: Gypsies; Bruce Davidson: Subway, along with The New York Times Magazine: Photographs; The Latin American Photobook, and W.M. Hunt The Unseen Eye.
