La galleria 1000 eventi è lieta di annunciare la mostra collettiva

A quattro anni di distanza dalla prima collettiva dedicata al video 1000 eventi propone un secondo sguardo a questo universo. La mostra è idealmente articolata in due parti: la prima, più documentativa, raccoglie le registrazioni di alcune storiche performances di tre fra i più rappresentativi artisti contemporanei quali Joseph Beuys, Bruce Nauman Marina Abramovic . Sia Beuys che Nauman furono fra i primi ad intuire le potenzialità del video quale mezzo ideale ed economico per documentare il loro percorso di ricerca artistica. Dalla fine degli anni sessanta Bruce Nauman realizza numerosi filmati che tentano sempre di carpire la banalità estenuante del quotidiano, registrando azioni spesso condotte in assenza di pubblico e generalmente caratterizzate da una dimensione privata. In Eye for Eye, qui presentato, una cena romantica tra un uomo e una donna degenera in una micidiale rissa senza esclusione di colpi. Di Marina Abramovic e Ulay viene presentata “AAA-AAA”, registrazione della storica performance del 1978 in cui, disposti l’uno di fronte all’altro, producono una serie continua di suoni vocali. Lentamente, aumentano la tensione, le facce si avvicinano urlando l’uno dentro la bocca spalancata dell’altra fino a perdere la voce.
La seconda parte della mostra raccoglie video di giovani artisti contemporanei: Robin Rhode, 1976, sudafricano che lavora con materiali di uso comune quali cartone, gesso, pittura a partire dai quali comincia a creare le sue performance basate su suoi disegni e oggetti con i quali interagisce. Rob Carter, 1976, artista newyorkese presenta Stone on Stone, video che é già stato incluso nella mostra Slash: Paper Under the Knife al Museum of Art and Design di New York: in questa animazione video utilizzando la tecnica dello stop-motion architettura gotica e modernista si alternano e si sovrappongono nel re-inventare una surreale cattedrale di San Giovanni che giace incompiuta nell’upper east side a New York . Andrea Mastrovito nato a Bergamo nel1978, presenta uno dei suoi primi lavori video BAWITDABA: Le avventure di una scimmia e porco di plastica attraverso il mondo perduto della finzione cinematografica. A fare da cornice al video parte dell’installazione L’isola del Dottor Mastrovito presentata l’estate scorsa a Governors Island, New York. Il lavoro dell’artista belga, Antoine Roegiers, 1980, utilizza la musica evocativa del fisarmonicista Richard Galliano in questa animazione onirica dove illustra le magiche virtù di un buon sigaro.

Four years after the first group show on video art, 1000 Eventi presents a second survey of this universe. The exhibition is organized in two parts: the first, with a more documentary approach, focuses on historic performances by three of the most representative contemporary artists, namely Joseph Beuys, Bruce Nauman and Marina Abramovic. Beuys and Nauman were among the first to glimpse the potential of video as an ideal, economical tool for the documentation of their artistic research. Since the late 1960s Bruce Nauman has made many videos that always attempt to capture the draining banality of everyday life, recording actions often done without an audience, generally marked by a private dimension. In Eye for Eye, presented here, a romantic dinner of a man and a woman degenerates into a brutal struggle with no holds barred. The work by Marina Abramovic and Ulay included in the show is “AAA-AAA”, the recording of the historic performance in 1978 in which they face each other and produce a continuous series of vocal sounds. Slowly the tension grows, the faces approach each other, shouting through and into gaping mouths till they lose their voices.
The second part of the exhibition features videos by young contemporary artists: Robin Rhode, 1976, a South African artist who works with commonly used materials like cardboard, plaster and paint, starting with which he begins to create performances based on his drawings and objects, with which he interacts. Rob Carter, 1976, from New York, contributes Stone on Stone, a video that was included in the exhibition Slash: Paper Under the Knife at the Museum of Art and Design of New York: in this animated video, using the stop-motion technique, gothic and modern architecture alternate and overlap, reinventing a surreal cathedral of St. John, the building that remains incomplete on the Upper East Side of New York. Andrea Mastrovito, born in Bergamo in 1978, presents one of his first video works, BAWITDABA: the adventures of a plastic hog and an ape through the lost world of cinema fiction. The video is framed by part of the installation The Island of Doctor Mastrovito presented last summer at Governors Island, New York. The work by the Belgian artist Belgian director Antoine Roegiers born in 1980, uses the evocative music of accordionist Richard Galliano in this lovely animation that illustrates the magical properties of a good cigar.
