BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS
by Neil Simon
Directed by Matt K. Miller

Neil Simon's award winning play of a boy's rocky journey to adulthood--and all the rocks live under the same roof!  Simon's script speaks to the timelessness of the struggles, and humor, linked to adolescence and family in this heartwarming coming-of-age comedy.

Neil Simon in 1966, in the middle of a long career-- he wouldn't finish writing Brighton Beach Memoirs until 1983.
A little background on the famed Neil Simon...

Neil Simon grew up in Washington Heights, Manhattan during the Great Depression and began his career working on an Army camp newspaper and then as a mailroom clerk.  He would ultimately become America's most successful commercial playright, win several Tony Awards and at one time have four plays on Broadway at the same time.  His humble beginnings and ultimate success make him a true example of the American dream, and Brighton's semi-autobiographical story about a family's struggles during hard times clearly resonates today.

This is the fourth Neil Simon play that Matt K. Miller has worked on in his career.  Matt on acting and directing in Brighton: "I find it wonderfully challenging to wear both hats."  To aid in the challenge, Matt has solicited the help of friend and colleague Greg Alexander as Assistant Director, with whom he has a "terrific working rapport." "Plus," Matt adds, "this is a comedy and Greg is a very funny man."
