Judy Chicago Tapestries:
Woven By Audrey Cowan

March 1 – June 19

This special exhibition celebrates the generous gift of Audrey and Bob Cowan to MAD of Ms. Cowan’s artistic archive, documenting her tapestry weaving collaborations with Judy Chicago, the internationally renowned artist, feminist, and educator. This exhibition will feature Chicago’s original sketches, studies, black-and-white cartoons, wood engravings, hung next to nine finished tapestries, including two of her opus works from the Birth Project and the Holocaust Project: From Darkness into Light. More

A Bit of Clay on the Skin:
New Ceramic Jewelry

March 15 – September 4

Organized by the Fondation d’Entreprise Bernardaud and curated by the renowned German-born goldsmith and jewelry artist Monika Brugger, this exhibition demonstrates the versatility and visual allure of ceramic—especially porcelain—jewelry. On view will be more than 100 compelling works by 18 cutting-edge jewelry artists; some are cast or modeled, others are combined with metal, wood, or stone. More

Patrick Jouin:
Design and Gesture

With projects spanning quite literally from the spoon to the city, Patrick Jouin is one of the most prolific designers working today. This is his first solo exhibition at a New York museum. It incorporates the Paris-based designer’s landmark objects in a multimedia installation, with videos exploring the relationship between object and gesture. More

The Global Africa Project

An unprecedented exhibition, The Global Africa Project actively challenges conventional notions of a singular African aesthetic or identity, and reflects the integration of African art and design. On show are works of contemporary African art, design, and craft by more than 100 artists working in Africa, Europe, Asia, the United States, and the Caribbean. More

“Under the Influence” is a provocative program of dance works inspired by visual art practices. This month’s program showcases works by Miro Magloire, founder and artistic director of New Chamber Ballet; Ben Munisteri, who has created works for the Pennsylvania Dance Theater and has been an artist in residence at the Joyce Theater Foundation and the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival; and Michele Wiles, a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theater, where she has created many leading roles. The series will continue with one Wednesday performance a month through May 18. More

Julie Iovine, Executive Editor of The Architect’s Newspaper, will host a roundtable discussion and Q&A with top design minds including Michael Graves, Calvin Tsao, Gisue Hariri and Jeffrey Bernett on their experiences, strategies and needs when it comes to making American design happen. Nightlife: An Oral History of NYC Club Culture

Studio 54, The Palladium, Limelight. These defunct New York clubs were known for wasted debauchery, expressive attire, and a damn good time. But these infamous spaces also played an instrumental part in the evolution of performance, music, and cultural production. Legendary nightlife luminaries of the ‘80s, ‘90s, and today as Michael Alig, Joey Arias, Ladyfag, and Michael Musto will discuss how nightlife served as a nexus for vital artistic collaborations.
