Museum Night Saturday 5 March 2011 Book Launch: One Day by Susanne Kriemann Book signing from 8-9 p.m.     During Rotterdam’s Museumnacht, Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art proudly launches the artists’ book ONE DAY by Susanne Kriemann. Rotterdam-based artist Maziar Afrassiabi digs into the city's sonic archives to produce a sound-collage in dialogue with a special slide presentation based on Kriemann's book. From 8-9pm, Susanne Kriemann will be available to answer questions and sign copies of ONE DAY. ‘Museumnacht’ Special Price for ONE DAY €20,-. Poster available for €5,-. This is the third book in a series of portraits of the City of Rotterdam, that Witte de With, Center for Contemporary Art has been producing in collaboration with artists who are particularly concerned with the photographic medium. The invitation to Susanne Kriemann particularly considered the way her work subtly explores the migration of images and images of migration. Moreover, she often places books at the center of her practice, offering them as elegant emblems of complex historical phenomena. For this project Kriemann collected a long list of books about Rotterdam, all of which have been published since its devastating bombing by the Luftwaffe in May 1940. Rotterdam is unique in that its rebuilding did not focus on restoring the pre-war urban fabric, but instead became a multi-faceted experiment in architecture and urban planning that at times mirrors, and at times seems at odds with, its evolving social composition.
