The exhibition includes a series of six rare and important
Japanese Raku ware tea bowls:
- A fabulous black tea bowl by the 6th Raku Master, Sanyu (1685-1739);
- Two elegant and distinctive tea bowls by the famous 9th Raku master Ryonyu
(1756-1834), one of which was given the poetic name "Nukumori" (“Warmth”) by
the fifteenth generation head of Urasenke, Hounsai (born 1923);
- An unusually-shaped red and black glazed footed tea bowl named "bajohai"
(literally “horse riding cup”) by the 10th Raku master, Tannyu
(1795-1854);
- Two charming tea bowls by Raku XI Keinyu (1817-1902) and Raku XIII Seinyu
(1887-1944).
Complementing this group of tea bowls is a set of 7 delightful incense
containers by the same Raku masters.
