Salazar to present special recital titled, Of War and Windmills

Peoria, IL (March 4, 2011) Soprano Shirley Salazar, marking her 20th year as a voice teacher at Bradley University, will present a special recital at 7:30 pm on Saturday, April 2, at Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue.

The recital’s title “Of War and Windmills” will reflect on the big ideas of war, love, forgiveness and also mirror Ms. Salazar’s Dutch heritage.  Featured in the recital will be songs of Schubert and Barber, accompanied by Andrea Molina. These are followed by a chamber work by Morten Lauridsen, which includes musicians John Orfe, piano, Stephen Heinemann, clarinet, and Carol Wessler, cello. Molly Sloter accompanies Shirley in excerpts from The Diary of Anne Frank in Micheal Cohen’s “In Remembrance.” The recital will close with arrangements of 3 Dutch Folk Songs for String Quartet and Soprano by Lowell Koons. The quartet includes Lowell and Leslie Koons, Hannah Salazar and Carol Wessler.

Admission is free and open to the public.  For more information, call 309 677 3589.
