(Philadelphia,
March 2011) InLiquid presents Chance, recent
photographs by artist Paul Rider in the Hall at the Crane Arts Building. There
will be an opening reception for the artist on Second Thursday, March 10,
2011 from
6 to 9 pm, and an additional reception on April 14, 2011 from 6 to 9pm.
In
this exhibition, the photographs were taken by chance – allowing the mind to be
free, and to create and see in a way similar to how a child would see – with
open eyes. The pure simplicity of
these works allows the mind to view and perceive what it sees as is, rather
than what it is taught to see.
This process challenges us through this pure concept, while the viewer
experiences the beauty in it. The
series of work is grouped as the images were photographed – by chance – leading
the artist to using his intuition to arrange the work in the space.
Paul Rider is an artist living and
working in Philadelphia. He
received his MFA in photography from Savannah College of Art in Savannah, GA
and his BFA in photography from Philadelphia College of Art in Philadelphia. He was one of the founding members of
the photographic cooperative called Level 3 where he was the exhibition
coordinator for the gallery. Rider
has also spent time as an educator teaching photography in workshops and
colleges such as Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA, Marywood University,
Scranton, PA, Delaware College of Art and Design, Wilmington, DE, Bucks County
Community College, Newtown, PA, and Horizons, Saunderland, MA. He has also been an exhibitor of his
work in various galleries around the country and in France. Rider is currently working as a
freelance photographer and is also a fellow at the Center for Emerging Visual
Artists in Philadelphia.
The
public hours for the Crane Arts Building are noon – 6 pm, Wednesday – Sunday,
and until 9 pm on the Second Thursday of each month.
