Art South Africa: New Opportunities

Week 11 08 March 2011

Art South Africa Magazine 9.3:

Art South Africa magazine 9.3 was launched at the Design Indaba. You can find a copy of our Art & Design issue at Exclusive Books, CNAs and other specialist book stores around the country. For more information about subscribing, see here.

THE Art South Africa BROADSHEET:

THE Art South Africa BROADSHEET launched at the Design Indaba and has been making its way across the country ever since. Boasting a special edition poster of Ian Grose's Lindsay x2, two oil paintings of Lindsay Lohan's infamous mugshot, the first free BROADSHEET is a real collector's item. You can find a copy of our new multi-platform magazine in galleries, boutiques, coffee shops and tertiary institutes across the country. For more from THE BROADSHEET see here.

Xanita Boards:

The Art South Africa Design Indaba stand was made with Xanita boards. Xanita’s  high strength-to-weight range of "X-Board" composite panels offer environmentally-conscious designers, like the mind behind our own stand, Piers Mansfield-Scaddan, a versatile board with high recycled fibre content that can itself be recycled through conventional industrial paper recycling processes. Xanita’s goal is to reduce global reliance on non-renewable, petrochemical-based polymer sheeting and formaldehyde-based MDF and particle board, sold in millions of cubic metres per year across the globe. For more on Xanita see here.

Strauss & Co Auction Results:

Last night Strauss & Co held an auction of “Important South African Paintings, Furniture, Silver, Ceramics and Glass”. Included in the auction were works by Irma Stern and William Kentridge. The results of the auction can be seen here.

Chimurenga Call for Classifieds:

Chimurenga is calling for classifieds contributions to the new Chimurenga Chronicle. From the press release: “Chimurenga Magazine’s next publishing project is The Chimurenga Chronice – a once-off, day-only edition of a speculative, future-forward newspaper that travels back in time to re-imagine the present. For more information see here.

Art South Africa Store:

The Art South Africa shop in Woodstock stocks a wide range of original works by local creatives, exclusive prints by artists (including the new “Bear in Mind” poster by Am I Collective, the minds behind our 9.2 fold-out cover), and rare art-related books. You can also find complete back issues of Art South Africa, Itch and Snapped magazines at our premises.
