Kathy Smith will present her work in progress Slippages currently on display at Tamarind Art and discuss the evolution of the media as it pertains to structuring through images and concepts of consciousness.
"I want to show the correlation of three-dimensional time to three-dimensional space and how the evolution of creative processes such as drawing, painting, holography, animation and installation map the non-linear or multiple time perception that is core to this project". - Kathy Smith.
Current exhibit Slippages is a 2D/3D animation, oil on canvas, hologram and stereoscopic installation about the mysteries of time life and consciousness. Partly inspired by the missing chapter 18 of Joan Lindsay's 'Picnic at Hanging Rock', Slippages utilizes creative processes such as drawing, painting, photography, animation and installation to map the non-linear or multiple time perception of the elderly couple's experience.
Following the structural elements of the three dimensions of time theory discussed by early twentieth century time theorists P.D. Ouspensky, J.W. Dunne, and J.G. Bennett, artist Kathy Smith uses cutting-edge technology such as Adobe CS5, Pixologic Z-Brush and Autodesk Face Robot to create realistic 3D portraits and landscapes which seamlessly disintegrate into two-dimensional strokes, emulating the shift from one dimension to the next. Smith's unique vision stands out in skillful use of hi-resolution digital panoramic photography and virtual set creation utilizing Autodesk Maya reflecting true amalgamation of science, philosophy and religion.
