ABOUT THE PANELISTS

Brad GOLDBERG is an artist who sees his work as a fusion between sculpture, the landscape and the built environment. Sculptures are seen not as isolated objects, but rather as spirit-creating components of larger spatial experiences. The desire to work with the environment as a whole has necessitated expanding outside the traditional role of a studio sculptor, into an area that might be termed Landscape Sculpture. Ultimately, each new project generates a unique non-preconceived response encompassing the total aspect of a specific place or circumstance. This response may include sculpture, architecture, landscape, furniture etc.

The complexities of working on large environmental projects have led to collaborative efforts with other artists, design professionals, civic leaders and communities. Within the framework of these projects, Brad has worked conceptually as an idea generator and physically as the creator of site-specific sculptures, parks, gardens, interior spaces, furniture, and landscape installations. He has worked on a wide variety of projects, both international and national. Brad resides in Dallas, where he keeps his studio. He travels extensively to work on projects and to maintain a world-perspective. "In time," he states, "with many experiences layered over one another, I am hoping my work will reflect a cultural collage.....more in keeping with artistic truths, than passing fashion. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Dallas Architecture Forum.

Ignacio BUNSTER-OSSA is a landscape architect and urban designer whose work is consistently recognized for design innovation. He is a pioneer and leading practitioner of Landscape Urbanism, an approach to urban design based on the fusion of ecology, community identity, infrastructure, recreation, and public art. Ignacio continues to develop and refine this practice as he directs our landscape architecture studio in Philadelphia and of many of the firm's large-scale landscape projects. Bunster-Ossa is a Harvard Loeb Fellow and periodically lectures, teaches, writes, and serves on design award juries. Representative projects include: Action Plan to Rebuild New Orleans, Seaside Development Master Plan, South Beach Improvements Santa Monica Beach Improvement Group, South Livermore Valley Plan, Washington Avenue Loft District.

After teaching at the University of Dallas, where GAIL THOMAS directed the Center for Civic Leadership, she co-founded the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture in 1980 and served as its director for 17 years. She continues as director of their Center for the City. A prolific author, Thomas has written Healing Pandora: The Restoration of Hope and Abundance, Stirrings of Culture, Imagining Dallas, and Pegasus: The Spirit of Cities. In Dallas, her efforts were instrumental in the creation of Pegasus Plaza, the first new park in the central city in many years. She also chaired the Dallas Millennium Project, which restored the landmark illuminated statue of the winged horse to the city's skyline.
Thomas was one of three to lead the development of the Balanced Vision Plan for the Trinity River Corridor Project. The Trinity Trust Foundation that she now heads currently endeavors to implement the ambitious plan for the Trinity project that winds through 20 miles of Dallas. Active within the AIA community, Thomas' leadership skills have been utilized by AIA Dallas, the Dallas Architectural Foundation, and the Texas Society of Architects, where she completed a two-year term as the public member on the Board of Directors. She is on the advisory board of the Dallas Architecture Forum.

ABOUT THE DALLAS ARCHITECTURE FORUM

The Dallas Architecture Forum provides a continuing and challenging public discourse on architecture and urban design in - and for - the Dallas area. The Forum offers presentations of architecture through public lectures by designers, critics, and historians; through topical discussions; and through occasional study tours to buildings and cities locally and throughout the world. The Dallas Architecture Forum serves as an inclusive arena where people interested in and concerned with the built environment, non-professionals and professionals alike, may interact intellectually and socially. Our membership comes from business, development, public affairs, education, the arts and from the design fields. This mix of interests and ties is one of the strengths we bring to our involvement with architecture. Support for the Forum's programs is a grassroots effort, coming from membership subscriptions at all levels and from the generous sponsorship of Forum seasons and events. Visit dallasarchitectureforum.org or call 214-764-2406.
