Diagram: 'The Evolution of a Wing' from: http://afarensis.blogsome.com/category/dinosaur-bird-transition/ A 48-hour intensive performance event, this project will feature multiple late cretaceous dinosaurs, birds, humans, and robots in performance of their evolution. Loosely based on ethological research on imprinting and fixed action patterns in bird species and their purported connections to neurobiological reflexes and attachment patterns in humans, I will explore fantasies of future non-human attachment responses through object installation, video and choreographed movement. Visual and content imagery for this piece is inspired by Harry Harlow's research on the attachment behaviors of rhesus monkeys, and Konrad Lorenz' study of imprinting in geese, among other sources. This performance provides commentary on the attachment relationship as a key neurobiologically evolved component of survival in several pre- proto- and post-human species. Honk! Texas
Festival of Community Street Bands
Featuring Mobius Artist Group Member Grant Smith performing with Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band and the Second Line Social Aid Pleasure Society Brass Band
HONK!TX is a different kind of festival that will present music to Austin in an unprecedented fashion.
Twenty community street bands will participate in transforming everyday locations into organic stages where the line between crowd and performers dissolves. HONK!TX's unique format will demonstrate the potential for creative use of our public spaces without the need for amplification or artificial stages.
Mobius Artist Grant Smith will be performing with Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band and Second Line Social Aid Pleasure Society Brass Band.

About Mobius: Mobius (est. 1977) is a non-profit, artist-run organization, whose mission is to generate, shape and test experimental art. The members of the organization believe an effective strategy for supporting this art is to establish grounds that build relationships among fellow artists. Mobius is committed to structuring environments that foster projects incorporating a wide range of disciplines. This approach sets in motion situations where the artist's impact can be seen locally, nationally and internationally. Constructing art initiatives outside accepted frameworks and encouraging animated discourse with the public are fundamental to Mobius.
Founded by Marilyn Arsem in 1977, Mobius is known for incorporating a wide range of the visual, performing, and media arts into innovative live performance, video, installation and intermedia works. Mobius has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally. Works created at Mobius have been presented throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. For more on Mobius click HERE.
Mobius is supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council; the Boston Cultural Council, a local agency which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, administered by the Mayor's Office of the Arts, Tourism, and Special Events; the Oedipus Foundation; by an award for artistic excellence from the Tanne Foundation; the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and generous private support.
