FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 11, 2011

The Museum of Nebraska Art kicks off the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the MONA building and the 35th Anniversary of MONA with an exciting new art exhibition and sales event called ESPRIT: A Taste of Art.

The ESPRIT: A Taste of Art exhibition opens on Saturday, March 26, 2011 and features the work of contemporary Nebraska artists in a variety of media. The list of participating artists reaches across the state and beyond and includes: jewelry artist Sydney Lynch of Lincoln; ceramic artists Chris Gryder of Vinton, Virginia, and John Martelle of Herman, Nebraska; fiber artist Barbara Trout of Lincoln; glass artists Valerie Batt of Omaha, Rick and Valerie Beck of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, and Chad Fonfara of Kearney; mixed media artists Elmer Hozlrichter, Kearney, Bonnie O’Connell, Omaha, and Art Pierce, Kearney; and artists in wood Dale Bergantzel, Lincoln, and Curt Norman, Omaha.

The exhibition culminates with the ESPRIT Art Sale which will be held at MONA on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Work will be sold in both silent and live auctions during the evening. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will support the exhibitions and programs of the Museum of Nebraska Art during the coming year.

As an added feature of this festive weekend, MONA will recognize long-time supporter, Carl (Ky) Rohman of Lincoln, with the Spirit of MONA Award at a  celebration brunch on Sunday, April 17, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Museum of Nebraska Art is the only museum dedicated exclusively to telling the story of Nebraska through the art of Nebraska with exhibitions and programs that make MONA visitors part of the art. For a complete schedule of MONA exhibitions and programs, visit the MONA website at mona.unk.edu

ESPRIT patrons are encouraged to make reservations early as seating for each event is limited. For more information about these events, visit us on the web at mona.unk.edu or call MONA at (308) 865-8559.
