In Memory of My Brother David Ferrara
Making a Difference in a Child's Life and Honoring A Lifetime of Selfless Acts

df
Dear Friends and Supporters of the Gallery,

I do not typically reach out on a personal basis to you, but below is something that is near and dear to my heart so I thought I would share it with you.

The below fundraising effort was created a year ago in memory of my brother David Ferrara, nicknamed Dino, who passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2009. He was 44 years old and left behind a wife and two kids.

He was my big brother, my friend, my mentor and my inspiration. From the time we were young, he looked after me, watched over me and guided my life, He is a big part of why I am who i am.

He was a very giving person, who was always there for his family and friends, was active in his community and church and was very involved in youth sports and his kids' lives.

He was a tireless entrepreneur who taught me many lessons and gets alot of the credit for the entrepreneurial spirit that I bring to the art world. His spirit lives on and one of the ways his friends and my family continue that is through raising monies for things he believed in, helping others as he did.

So, it is in this vein that I send this email. I would like you to know how we are keeping his spirit and memory alive and if you are inclined to join in, then many thanks, if not, no worries at all.

My brother was a great athlete and he was All State in Basketball and loved the annual NCAA March Madness Basketball Tournament.

So in his honor The WWDD March Madness Pool was started.

(WWDD! stands for What Would Dino Do! which were words I spoke in my eulogy of him at his funeral as a mantra to give comfort and inspiration to our family and his friends.)

WWDD! March Madness Basketball Pool 2011

David Ferrara's extended network of family, friends and colleagues remains vast. He will always be remembered as a tireless worker who was quick to assist those in need, particularly the less fortunate. Additionally, he was a mentor who worked hard to impart his spirit on young athletes - giving much of his time to coach the youth teams of his son, daughter and their peers.

Many of those Dino touched vowed to ensure his memory and legacy endures. In fact, the phrase "WWDD" - What Would Dino Do? - was conceived as a way to honor his lifetime of selfless acts and guarantee his spirit will live on..

A "March Madness" Pool was chosen as a way to keep the past and future connected, to appreciate each day we all are blessed to have and most importantly - to Give Back!

As an entrepreneur, he would love the fact that all those who enter are giving money to charity and have a chance to win money in the basketball pool. A two- fer you might say!

The Inaugural WWDD March Madness Pool in 2010 was an overwhelming success! Through the first year efforts and charitable giving, the 2010 WWDD March Madness Pool raised over $20,000 for the Starz Foundation whose mission is to afford the opportunity for less fortunate kids to learn and enjoy the game of lacrosse which David loved dearly as a Maryland All State Defensemen, and Bucknell University player. The 2010 success has enabled, through the Starz Foundation, the following:

· 25 High School TEAM DINO players competed in the Summer Starz League

· 4 TEAM DINO players received scholarships to the SilverFin Summer Camp

· 10 High School TEAM DINO players competed in a Fall Box League in L.A.

· 20 High School TEAM DINO players competed in Winter Starz League

· Lacrosse Pro's conducted 4 free demonstrations at middle schools in South Central Los Angeles during PE

· 30 sets of equipment were distributed to low-income players
