Encaustic is a painting method in which pigment is mixed with a binder of hot wax and fixed by heat after application. This class will explore and combine encaustic techniques with new materials such as collage, transfers, printing and other mediums. All experience levels welcome.

This workshop will address a fundamental concern of painting: how can the materials help generate painting? In other words, what is the concept of material? Using these questions as guides in place of a visual reference, students will have the opportunity to renew and expand their relationship with painting.
