Dear Jodi
We are delighted to announce that Dublin Contemporary Lead Curator Christian Viveros-Fauné will be speaking on the second day of the Symposium which will take place on 18th March 2011 10 am – 5pm.
Terminal Convention is an internationally significant art, music and discursive event featuring some of the world's leading and emerging artists, musicians and academics. The project takes place 17-27 March 2011 in the former Cork International Airport Terminal, Ireland, and Cork city centre music venue in partnership with the National Sculpture Factory.
Terminal Convention consists of four strands: Exhibition, Symposium, Art Fair and Music Event and each element is interrelated in terms of subject and experience and many of the participating artists, musicians, academics, cultural commentators and the public will engage in all of the platforms.
Topic of Symposium Day 2 - Imagining new markets: Rethinking the economies of art
“A range of speakers will consider the role that an expanded art market plays in the production, distribution and consumption of contemporary art. Far from treating the market as a clearly identifiable and unnecessary evil (the faux-naïve stance of those who would really wish to fall into the market with open arms) this session will seek to open up more sophisticated territories for the production of subversive contemporary art.”
Christian, along with a range of experts in the field, will be asked to suggested ways in which an expanded model(s) of the art work may yet play a key role in the production of radical content.
