The Arts Incubator in the Crossroads is featuring The Select Works of Arts Incubator Resident Artists throughout April at the Cocoon Gallery, 115 W. 18th St., Kansas City. The opening reception for this exhibit is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. during First Friday, April 1. The opening and exhibition are free and open to the public.

Every month, the Arts Incubator features a new exhibit in the Cocoon Gallery, and twice a year, the works of artists who are part of the Incubator's two-year residency program are presented during month-long shows.

"When the Arts Incubator's resident artists show their new works in the Cocoon Gallery, it's always a favorite exhibition and generates buzz in the community," said Trisha Drape, associate director of the Arts Incubator. "And every First Friday, we love opening the doors of our INKubator Press and Hello Art Lounge to art patrons and those who are curious about art."

In addition to opening receptions of new works in the Cocoon Gallery every First Friday, resident artists open up their studios on the second and third floors of the Arts Incubator to visitors.

Inside the Arts Incubator, next to the Cocoon Gallery on the first floor, the INKubator Press,

a community print shop, is open from 6 to 9 p.m. every First Friday for visitors to learn more about its classes and membership. The INKubator Press also hosts Open Studio Night from

6 to 9 p.m. every Monday. A $10 donation is requested to use the printmaking facilities.

The Arts Incubator also presents its popular Hello Art Lounge & Trolley Tours every First Friday. This month, Berkowitz Oliver Williams Shaw and Eisenbrandt is sponsoring the Hello Art Lounge, which is open from 5:30 to 9:15 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the Arts Incubator Event Loft, and will features music, beverages, hors d'oeuvres and art. Kansas City sculptor E. Spencer Schubert will provide a live sculpting demonstration. The first trolley tour departs at 6:15 p.m. from the Arts Incubator and will make multiple loops to local galleries. Gallery stops this month include Cara and Cabezas Contemporary and Square One Interiors in the River Market.

Hello Art is free to members; a $10 donation is requested from visitors and an RSVP is

required. Visit www.helloart.org to join or RSVP for a one-time guest pass by e-mailing ltaylor@artsincubatorkc.org.

ABOUT THE ARTS INCUBATOR

The Arts Incubator of Kansas City recently received the international 2010 Best Creative & Culture Incubator award during ceremonies in Liverpool, England, where more than 18 other countries and incubators were nominated for the honor.

The mission of the Arts Incubator is to provide facilities and professional support for artists and other creative entrepreneurs to build profitable, sustainable businesses. Most artists who graduate from art institutions do not have the business skills required to establish self-sustaining careers in the arts. The Arts Incubator is dedicated to working with these emerging artists in the development of their careers.

In addition to business workshops and consulting, the Arts Incubator provides affordable, quality studio space in the Crossroads Arts District, a community experiencing extraordinary growth and national recognition as one of the top arts communities in the nation.

The Cocoon Gallery, the INKubator Press, Hello Art and the Event Loft all are part of the Arts Incubator and its programming.
