STRAVINSKY'S HISTOIRE DU SOLDAT FEATURING TIM FAIN, THE LAR LUBOVITCH DANCE COMPANY, AND RANSOM WILSON'S LE TRAIN BLEU

Le Train BleuOne Night Only at Galapagos! Please join us for a star-studded new production of Stravinsky’s Histoire du Soldat. Violinist TIM FAIN, fresh from his on- and offscreen appearance in the film Black Swan, will perform the featured solo violin part. Dance legend LAR LUBOVITCH will choreograph the work for   members of the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. MacArthur Grant winner JENNIFER TIPTON will be the Lighting Designer, and New York City Opera stage director A. SCOTT PARRY will serve as Dramaturg. Additionally, the performance marks the debut of a new ensemble, LE TRAIN BLEU, conducted by renowned flutist and conductor RANSOM WILSON.

Histoire du Soldat is a 1918 theatrical work “to be read, played, and danced,” set to music by Igot Stravinsky. The libretto, based on a Russian folk tale, is by Swiss writer C.F. Ramuz and tells the story of a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil for a book that predicts the future. The music is scored for violin, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone, and percussion, and the story is told by three actors: the soldier, the devil, and a narrator. In this production, dancers will portray non-speaking roles and serve to illuminate the story. The performance will be in English.

There will be two performances of Histoire Du Soldat, one at 7:30pm and another at 9:30pm.

FLOATING KABARETTE

Happy Hour Clowns
Circus acrobatics special featuring Harvest Moon (formerly of Cirque du Soleil) and Joshua Dean (Suspended Cirque)!

Harvest Moon, also known as The Sultry Siren of Burlesque, began her career by founding the legendary dance troupe The Cantankerous Lollies in 1995. Miss Moon's troupe quickly became San Francisco's premiere showgirl act, known for their Montmartre-style cabarets, including rousing Can-Cans which would've made Toulouse Lautrec proud. Harvest has also performed with members of Cirque Du Soliel in the 2005 production of "The Love Show".

Joshua Dean, co-founder of Suspended Cirque, has danced around the world as a ballet, modern, and musical theater dancer. He has worked with Twyla Tharp and been in Cats, West Side Story, The Music Man, and many others.

Tonight’s awesome lineup also includes Sarah Louise Young, Miss Tickle, Maine Attraction, Freddy Malaboca, and your delightfully raunchy host Bastard Keith.

OPERA GROWS IN BROOKLYN: LADIES' NIGHT!

Opera Grows in Brooklyn
“I for one do not intend to miss another installment of this remarkable series!!!” …the eclectic and sometimes challenging musical offerings [are] beautifully framed by the contemporary space and the relaxed, social atmosphere.” - The Opera Insider

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Opera Grows in Brooklyn features scenes from contemporary operas by three of the fairer sex’s best composers:

- MIRANDA, a multi-media singspiel by Kamala Sankaram where the audience becomes detective, judge, and jury for an unsolved crime.

- PRAIRIE DOGS, the second in a triptych of operas that constitute The Wild Beast of the Bungalow. Inspired by the Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington, Alberta, PRAIRIE DOGS finds an eleven-year-old Girl in a town overrun by prairie dogs.

- PATIENCE & SARAH, the controversial opera that was the talk of the 1998 Lincoln Center Festival. Set in Connecticut in the winter of 1816, PATIENCE & SARAH tells the powerful story of two young women (soprano Adrienne Danrich and mezzo Rosalie Sullivan) who meet, fall in love, and resolve to devote their lives to each other.

Opera Grows in Brooklyn is an ongoing collaboration between American Opera Projects, “known for bringing cutting-edge vocal production to the masses,” (New York), and Opera on Tap, “…raucous and sublime…un-elitist, imperfect, and fun…” (NY Sun), that presents 90 minutes of songs and scenes from contemporary composers in a hip, cabaret-style atmosphere. Audiences have a chance to meet the artists and composers after the performance.

CHIARA QUARTET
Thursday, March 31
Doors: 7:00 pm, Show: 8:00 pm | $10 General Admission

“When the musicians put bows to strings, they delivered a nuanced performance that suggested that Webern’s 1909 score accommodates, and perhaps demands, conflicting points of view. They embraced the late Romanticism from which the music is mined, playing parts of the first movement with a lush, pulsing vibrato that made its turn-of-the-century Viennese origins unmistakable, and bathing the finale in an emotional, warm glow.” - The New York Times

Join us for the fourth volume in the year-long Creator/Curator series, featuring composer Daniel Ott. The Chiara Quartet will premiere Ott’s String Quartet No. 2, and perform Lutosawski’s String Quartet, chosen by the composer to accompany his new composition.
