| Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre | Media release 23 March 2011 Harvest Kimberley Dixon Introducing the latest crop of talented graduates fresh from the Australian National University (ANU) School of Art, Canberra Institute of Technology and the University of Canberra, Harvest is a series of award exhibitions in Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre’s Crucible Showcases
revealing what’s hot in Canberra.
Kimberley Dixon is the second emerging artist to be featured in this series, and is a graduate of the ANU School of Art Gold and Silver Workshop. Dixon exhibits Con Brio, a collection of wearable objects which are visual interpretations of piano compositions and notated music exploring repetition, pattern, and segmentation through minimalistic designs.
The exhibition series, Harvest, provides assistance for graduating artists and designer makers of local tertiary institutions at the beginning of their independent studio practice. This exhibition opportunity also encourages emerging practitioners to remain in the region and to stay connected with local art, craft and design organisations, such as Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre, who are able to promote, support and assist practitioners throughout their careers.
In 2011 Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is celebrating its
40th birthday. To commemorate this significant event an unprecedented number of emerging artist awards have been presented to recent graduates. The eight recipients in 2011 include Hannah Dalrymple, Kimberley Dixon, Deirdre Pearce, Annabelle Davidson, Elaine Bradley, Marco Chan, Edward Collett and George Thompson.
The exhibition will be officially opened by guest speaker Ms Helen O’Neil, Advisor, The Minister for the Arts, Mr Simon Crean MP, at 6.pm Thursday 31 March 2011. Harvest continues until Saturday 7 May 2011 in the Centre’s Crucible Showcases, Level 1 North Building, 180 London Circuit, Canberra City. The Centre is open Tuesday to Friday 10.am to 5.pm and Saturday 12.pm to 4.pm.
