KNEAD

KNEAD was born out of a performance workshop led by Tim Miller at PS122 in New York's East Village in December 2010. Drawing together individuals with backgrounds as actors, theater directors, filmmakers, playwrights, dancers, cabaret performers, critics, and activists, Tim Miller fostered a spirit of hot, intense collaboration that has overflowed the temporal and spatial confines of that December workshop.

In and through individual and collaborative creations of improvisational movement and words, dramatic writing and choreography emerged and crystallized into the performance art that is KNEAD. Tim Miller tasked these performers with creating works about fierce moments, "No" moments of defiance or perhaps moments of fiercely and ferociously saying "Yes."

Under Tim's direction, performers produced "body maps": visual art works on paper that map embodiment and trace bodily topologies in all their changeability, their ephemerality and potential, their fantasy forms, as well as their fleshy materiality. These works on paper will be on display before the performance and engagement with these body maps and the artists who created them constitutes an aspect of the performance itself.

Inspired by this series of collaborative performance experiments, members of the workshop each composed and directed an original performance art piece--some solos, some involving other performers in the group--and present these pieces in KNEAD.

About Mobius:
Mobius (est. 1977) is a non-profit, artist-run organization, whose mission is to generate, shape and test experimental art. The members of the organization believe an effective strategy for supporting this art is to establish grounds that build relationships among fellow artists.  Mobius is committed to structuring environments that foster projects incorporating a wide range of disciplines.  This approach sets in motion situations where the artist's impact can be seen locally, nationally and internationally.  Constructing art initiatives outside accepted frameworks and encouraging animated discourse with the public are fundamental to Mobius.

Founded by Marilyn Arsem in 1977, Mobius is known for incorporating a wide range of the visual, performing, and media arts into innovative live performance, video, installation and intermedia works. Mobius has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally.
