CHIARA QUARTET
“When the musicians put bows to strings, they delivered a nuanced performance that suggested that Webern’s 1909 score accommodates, and perhaps demands, conflicting points of view. They embraced the late Romanticism from which the music is mined, playing parts of the first movement with a lush, pulsing vibrato that made its turn-of-the-century Viennese origins unmistakable, and bathing the finale in an emotional, warm glow.” - The New York Times
Join us for the fourth volume in the year-long Creator/Curator series, featuring composer Daniel Ott. The Chiara Quartet will premiere Ott’s String Quartet No. 2, and perform Lutosawski’s String Quartet, chosen by the composer to accompany his new composition.

THREE ACTS OF BETRAYAL
“Terrorists’ whore”
“She is full with self-hatred”
“Such garbage should be executed!!!”
These words were uttered in reference to three of history's most famous female betrayors: Mata Hari, La Melincha, Rosa Luxemburg and Tali Fahima, who will be in the center of a new piece looking at women who used their body to perform national treason. Three Acts of Betrayal is presented in conjunction with Ofri Cnaani’s exhibition, The Sota Project, on view at Kunsthalle Galapagos through April 23rd. Cnaani and Cohen ask: "what happens when one stops being loyal to their country? What happens when the traitor is a woman – a traitress? How are traitors judged by the state and by the court of public opinion? What spectacle is formed through the punishment?" In Three Acts of Betrayal, artists combine live cinema various technologies of interrogation and entertainment to ask how and why we relate to political violence via technological mediation.
Hadas Cohen is a researcher and PhD candidate at the department of Politics at the New School for Social Research. She is writing her dissertation about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and treason. Ofri Cnaani is an artist and educator. She works in time-based media, live-cinema performances and large-scale installations. She often uses defunct technologies to present her research that is related to visual memories of the early days of Israeli history, and political and sexual betrayal.
