*_From the artist: "Perforate" A new series of Paintings and Monotypes_*

/"In this transitional figurative series, I was interested in creating
works exploring catalysts of change, adaptation and growth./

/How open are we to unfamiliar experiences, individuals, challenges or
even adapting to new environments? Through this line of questioning, I
sought to create works that might suggest the subject in the midst of
one of these transitional moments. Through collage and perforations or
window-like passages in the surfaces of the paintings, the figures are
both exposed and allowed to become one with their environment. I wanted
to suggest a heightened awareness of the self and possible outside
forces and events that sometimes influence our behavior all at once. In
some cases the figure might appear hesitant or uncertain, but most often
they are on the brink of experiencing something outside of their control."
/

/"While creating these pieces, I sometimes focused on how the viewer
might engage in the visual dialogue of the figure. Does the viewer
become a voyeur in an otherwise private moment, or are they the catalyst
for the narrative? Playing within these dual states, I attempted to
portray what one might project as a facade of his or her emotions while
also alluding to the internal and visceral pulse of our truest feelings. /

/I like this idea of both seeing a projection of that which lies beneath
the surface and what is tangible simultaneously."
