5 Questions with Mario and Karla
Police and Thieves curators are in the hot seat

While here for a brief residency, Police and Thieves curators Mario Ybarra, Jr. and Karla Diaz sat down for a few questions. 5 each to be exact.

Mario:
1. When are you the most creative?
I'm the most creative in the early morning. Or when I have a lot of sugar, peanut M&M's in particular.
2. Who's your favorite artist?
My favorite artist right now is one that I saw at the Art Institute this past Saturday, Pieter Tanjé. It was the first time I has seen so many of his art works in the same place. I also like Picasso. He died on my birthday and I like to think I'm haunted by him.
3. What is your guilty pleasure?
Bacon cheeseburgers
4. What was your favorite Halloween costume?
3rd grade. I was the Invisible Man. My mom found a corduroy jacket and sunglasses and she wrapped my face in bandages. And the class would walk around the track. I was sweating a lot but I really thought I was invisible!
5. Picasso or Dali?
Brach. Brach is like the Freestyle Fellowship. They started an underground style that was really raw. Then Bone Thugs 'n Harmony bit their style and got famous. So Brach is like Freestyle Fellowship and Picasso is like Bone Thugs.

Karla
1. What three things would you put on a sandwich?
Peanut butter, jelly, and banana
2. What's the last exhibition you saw?
Conrad Freiburg's It Is What It Isn't.
3. What music have you downloaded most recently?
I don't download, but DJ's give me sample music. Most recently it was "Never Leave Me Alone" by Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg.
4. Are you good or bad at sports?
Oh, I'm terrible at sports! But I love running. I don't run like a marathon runner though. I just consider it stress relief. It's a spiritual place. When I'm running and alone I can examine and reflect.
5. What's your favorite petty crime?
I like stealing. There were these supermarkets when I was a kid  where could steal (bulk) candy. It was bad, but it was so good!
