Visit Wave Hill in April as the trees begin to bloom! Spend a day learning about alpine gardens and making your own rustic container. Take advantage of the MillionTreesNYC free tree giveaway. Alpine Trough Day

Alpine troughs–hand-made rustic containers–function as miniature, self-contained rock gardens that display diminutive plants in a small amount of space. Join plantsman Dave Culp and Wave Hill's Laurel Rimmer to make and plant a trough and take a tour of our Alpine House.

Tree Giveaway
Sunday, April 10
Thanks to a partnership with MillionTreesNYC, Wave Hill welcomes families, individuals and community groups to pick up one free tree for planting on private property within the five boroughs of New York City. Staff horticulturists will be on hand to advise you in your selection, and simple tree-planting and care instructions will be provided.

Birding Along the Hudson
Sundays, April 10 & 24
Explore the Hudson River's avian ecology in Manhattan and the Bronx. Walks are led by NYC Audubon naturalist Gabriel Willow, and alternate between Wave Hill and various offsite locations. April 10: Wave Hill; April 24: Battery Park.

Ipheion uniflorum (Spring Starflower): This frost-hardy, bulbous perennial from Argentina bears honey-scented blossoms from late winter through spring. I. uniflorum grows under cool, shaded conditions. Plant among herbaceous perennials, such as hosta, in a sheltered border. Find this flower in Wave Hill's Wild Garden this month.
