Chan Hampe Galleries @ Raffles
Hotel
Presents…
UPAYA
- A solo exhibition by Jason Lim
4 April 2011 – 4 May 2011
Opening Night - Friday 8 April 2011, 7-9pm
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
3 March 2011
1 Jason Lim - renowned Singaporean
ceramicist and performance artist - will present his first solo exhibition at
Chan Hampe Galleries @ Raffles Hotel, providing audiences with a captivating
insight into his sculptural practice, inspired by nature and framed within the
iconographic Buddhist context of his ancestry.
2 Upaya is the Sanskrit word loosely referring to skilful means. In
Buddhism, it is associated with the “Earth Witness” mudra, specifically with
the right hand of Buddha, all five fingers extended towards the ground, during
the moment of enlightenment.
3 Through this exhibition, Lim offers
an insight into his practice, which challenges preconceived notions of ceramics
and its possibilities, beyond its utilitarian traditions, and bringing it into
the forefront of today's contemporary art practices.
4 UPAYA runs from April 4, 2011 until May 4, 2011 at Chan Hampe Galleries @ Raffles
Hotel, which is located at Raffles Hotel Arcade #01-04, 328 North Bridge Road. The exhibition is open daily from 11am
- 7pm. Admission is free. For enquires please call +65 6338 1962.

Opening Night - 26th
April 2011, Tuesday, 7:00pm
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
5 March 2011
1 In
our hectic, day-to-day pursuits one can easily forget to appreciate the small
things. With globalisation and technological advances seemingly decreasing
distance and increasing the speed of existence, the details and simple
pleasures of life often take a back seat.
2 "Singapore
Vignettes" invites you to take a moment out of your day to slow down and
appreciate these small - yet significant - details. Shelby Dillon and Zui Quan
You pay homage to the at times unassuming, but essentially vital aspects of our
surroundings - whether it is the environment around us, or the more personal
memories and stories each person has to share. The exhibition features both
intimate vignettes of heritage homes in Singapore as well as a view into the
artists' personal accounts of what happens when time slows down for a while.
3 "Singapore
Vignettes" runs from April 25, 2011 until May
13, 2011 at Chan Hampe Galleries @ Tanjong Pagar, which is located at 21

is open from 10am - 6pm on weekdays (closed on Wednesday) and 11am - 4pm on

Presents…
Traces
A solo exhibition by Dyn (Safaruddin Bin Abdul Hamid)
4 April 2011 - 22 April
2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
5 March 2011
1 By
shining the spotlight on the architectural "darlings of yesteryear" such
as the iconic National Museum and the shop houses of Ann Siang Hill, "Traces" celebrates not only their
significance in the history of Singapore but also their place in our personal
memories and past.
2 Dyn has developed this series from a
personal fascination with the coexistence of old and new architectural
landmarks. This juxtaposition of old versus new is highlighted through the use
of the dynamic fresh colours chosen by the artist to depict the buildings.
3 On
Saturday 9 April 2011 at 3pm, a talk
will be presented by Andrew YG Tan in the gallery in conjunction with Dyn's
exhibition (supported by the National Heritage Board's Heritage Industry
Incentive Programme - Hi2P).
Admission is free, kindly RSVP to: rsvp@chanhampegalleries.com.
4 Traces runs from April 4, 2011 until April 22, 2011 at Chan Hampe Galleries @
Tanjong Pagar, which is located at 21 Tanjong Pagar Road. The exhibition is open from 10am - 6pm
on weekdays (closed on Wednesday) and 11am - 4pm on weekends. Admission is free. For enquires please call +65 6222 1667.
About the Artist
5 Dyn (Safaruddin Bin Abdul Hamid)
graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts from the Open University in 2006. As well as being a part-time lecturer
at the Little Art Bug Workshop (LABW) Dyn is currently also a part-lecturer at
LASALLE College of the Arts for Visual Studies Foundation.
6 Working
with the notions of time, displacement and memories that we associate with
mainly inanimate objects, Dyn aims to offer the audience an opportunity to make
an emotional connection with spaces and places featured in his paintings. Working around the sense of nostalgia
and how certain objects allow people to reconnect with elements of their past,
Dyn aims to highlight the importance of our personal and cultural history.
