Lancaster: Visit the neighborhood for a cozy and delightful arts and craft experience with the Pennsylvania Guild's 2nd annual Handmade Market, May 7 & 8, during the fabulous Lancaster ArtWalk weekend.
This special outdoor craft event features the work of more than 30 craftsmen, clustered together at the corner of Walnut & Prince streets, and all within the walk-able art district that makes Lancaster ArtWalk the city's favorite downtown event! Two of the artists will be demonstrating their special crafts as well.
"We are located at the entrance to a great citywide event," said Guild executive director Sherrie Boyer. "Everything we do is designed to bring people together in the name of fine craft. Whether you are a maker of craft, or a lover of craft, our events are all about making craft happen for you. All of the beautiful work you see has been 100% designed, created and finished by hand by the craft maker."
The Guild's Handmade Market features fine craft in pottery, woodturning, leather, traditional German folk art, jewelry and more. This fun outdoor event is for one weekend only, May 7 & 8. Event hours are 10 am to 5 pm Saturday and noon to 4 pm Sunday. Admission is free.
Exhibiting both traditional and contemporary handmade craft, Handmade Market offers two live demonstrations, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to meet the artists and learn how authentic craft is handmade. This special event is across the street from the brand-new Guild Store, a year-round fine craft store featuring more than 1,000 handmade works by master craftsmen. The Guild Store's grand opening was April 1st.
The Pennsylvania Guild is one of the nation's largest and most respected craft guilds, serving more than 1,400 artists in 33 states and patrons who appreciate their fine work. Now established in Lancaster's vibrant art community, the Guild offers weekly and monthly events to meet the needs of craft enthusiasts, emerging craftsmen and established craft professionals. The Guild is also a leading organizer for the community's beloved "ArtWalk" which occurs May 7 & 8 and October 8 & 9 to connect audiences with the dozens of downtown art venues.
Handmade Market demonstrations include:
- Deena Ball of Havertown will be watercolor painting using luminescent paints, watercolor sticks and various pencils.
- Scott Gold of Oxford will show how using an adz, a gouge and a mallet combine with traditional training and skill to create hand-hewn salt boxes, wooden bowls and utensils sturdy and elegant enough for everyday life and a fine table.

The Pennsylvania Guild's Handmade Market is open on Saturday, May 7th from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, May 8th from 12 noon to 4 pm. Admission is free. Please Save the Date!
