April in Tegucigalpa, Medellin and New York
Dancing With Tegucigalpa

April is an exciting month and full of rehearsals. We have been in Tegucigalpa since 10 days working on Dancing with Tegucigalpa, a site-specific piece that moves the audience through the city. This award is a Performing Americas Program Creative Exchange subsidy by the National Performance Network. The award is supporting a three week residency in Tegucigalpa, Honduras hosted by Mujers en les Artes (Women in the Arts). The partnership with Mujers en les Artes began last year when we were on tour in Central America through the Performing Americas Project. The company performed in in the National Theatre and gave workshops to the National School of Dance. The tour was so successful that Nejla got invited back to create a new work. Our daily schedule includes rehearsals with dancers, interviewing artist and visiting locations. On April 9th we will showcase all the artist in a collective art walk through the city. Please read and see more on Nejla’s Blog at www.ny2dance.com
Immediately after this project is finished, Nejla will be heading to Medellin, Colombia to start rehearsing for the production of Medea. She will dance the role of Medea guesting with Danza Concierto under the direction of Peter Palacio at the Metropolitano Theatre.
Between rehearsals she will be back in New York joining the course of Victoria Phillips Geduld in the Body Politic course. The course explores how choreographers have been inspired by political events from Isadora Duncan and the Bolshevik Revolution through Nejla’s work on the Berlin Wall.

We need your help: Where Women Don’t Dance:

Please help us finish our film, “Where Women Don’t Dance.” This film is an expression of the ways women continue to be restricted in full expression near and far. Even here in the US women continue to deal with glass ceilings, restricting them from earning equal pay for equal work. This groundbreaking film is a testimonial to the courageous women who are ready to forge a new path creating opportunities for our daughters, the women of tomorrow. Be part of this historic effort with a contribution. All contributors will receive a mention on our website www.wherewomendontdance.com and receive a free copy of the film. Please, help us finish the film and make a tax-deductible donation on crowdrise

Nejla Y. Yatkin/NY2Dance appreciates your support in making a dream come true on so many levels. Thank you.
