LAUREL, MARYLAND - 5 April 11 - On May 12 Venus Theatre will open a play entitled, The Stenographer by Athens Greece playwright Zoe Mavroudi.

The Professor and The Girl spend an unlikely evening together.  The play is set in a suburban house in a college town, somewhere near New York.  The topic of conversation is Crime and Punishment.  And the drama is an internal storm where integrity clashes with philosophical rationalizations, alcohol, and literary analysis.  It's not at all what the viewer thinks it will be.

Zoe Mavroudi is getting some recognition from the BBC for her solo show, Beauty is Prison Time.

BBC radio says,  "What a story!  Quite simply, a tour-de-force.  If this isn't what theatre's about, then I don't know what is."

Leah Ryan Fund for Emerging Women Writers Annual Playwright Prize, where Mavroudi was a finalist says, "What a voice, a spirit, a sheer magnificent presence we have on stage.  This woman is vital in the extreme, nimbly conscious of her audience, utterly endearing."

Venus is pleased to bring the words of this amazing woman to life in this

never-before-seen work.

The Girl is played by Nayab Hussain.
Nayab has appeared in numerous films, industrials, and is currently featured in a national commercial about the national debt.  Recent film credits include Investment Banker Two in the film The Good Listener, Sofia Hamwi in Commitment a film by Team Sizzle Productions, the production company owned by Baltimore Ravens player Terrell Suggs, and Det. JJ Stanton in Fatal Noir.  She has appeared in industrials for the FDA, ExxonMobil, and various government training videos.  Recent theater credits include Joanie in Play Nice! at Venus Theatre and Iraqi woman in a staged reading of Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo at Arena Stage.   She will be appearing as Preetha in her first independent feature film this summer called Arrange to Settle by Citra Productions, a story about an Indian girl that decides to get an arranged marriage following a series of failed relationships.

The Professor is played by Philip Amico

In addition to his ongoing role as King Phillipe at Medieval Times, Phil has appeared in a number of feature and short films as well as industrials and commercials.  His role as Dr. Stein in The Patient earned him the Best Supporting Actor in a Short Film award at the World Music and International Film Festival in Washington DC, last year. His most recent film credits include Sal Vitello in The Good Listener, Carl in Conquering the Rose, both of which are in post production and the Grandfather in Gone Forever, which will see its world premier on April 16. He has appeared onstage as Florio in 'Tis Pity She's a Whore for the Georgetown Theatre, as Shylock in Merchant of Venice for the Jewish Theatre Workshop and  as King Protesilaus in Helen of Sparta and as Leon in Homokay's Medea, both for Venus Theatre. In addition to his stage & screen work, Phil has done voice overs for video games, movie trailers, commercials and reads an article from the Washington Times, each day, for Newspapers for the Blind.  Phil's voice can also be heard as Tormar in Jabberwocky Audio Theatre's podcast of the futuristic radio serial Rogue-Tyger.
