”We are hugely
enthusiastic about the space, the scheme and the plans and have asked the
Trustees of our charitable
trust to make a
substantial donation on this project. We will be very surprised if in 10/20
years time this has not
become an
important feature on the arts scene not just in Ipswich but in the UK”.
Dennis
Stevenson (Lord Stevenson of Coddenham) former Chairman of the Trustees of the
Tate
Ipswich Art School will show exhibitions of
international importance and provide a unique stage for local artists to show
their work. The gallery will be a major focus for the modern and contemporary
collection that Ipswich already has, helping
inspire a new generation. There will be a first class learning and volunteering
programme including opportunities for work placements and skills development.
New studios
will act as an
incubator for creative start-up businesses and provide artists in residence
space. Ipswich
Art School will inspire, transform and
educate as it has done in the past.
The artworks in this auction were kindly donated by
those who either attended or taught at the Art School
and are significant artists in the East Anglia area. To bring all these
artists together for this auction shows the quality and diversity associated
with the Art
School. It is a legacy we
want to see develop with future generations and in helping to save this building
you can support that. The Friends of Ipswich Museum is the charity fundraising
on behalf of the Art School Fundraising Appeal.
”My beginnings
were at Ipswich
Art School. Its restoration as a place of
vision would call attention to the inherent richness of this place
and
its continuing
inspiration for artists.”
Maggi Hambling, OBE,
CBE.
