"Jane" the documentary, a must
see!
Special Atlanta Screening &
Fundraiser Sunday, April 17 6:00pm Woodruff Arts Center, Rich
Theatre
Whether you are a movie buff, open for an amazing experience for
a good cause, lover of the arts & entertainment, or just plain curious,
the screening of the documentary
"Jane"
is an event you won`t want to miss!
This very rare screening, billed as
The Power of the Arts
will benefit G-CAPP and features Jane Fonda like
you`ve never seen her. The Atlanta screening is only the second public
showing of the film, ever.
"This is the most brutal thing I`ve
ever seen"
...from a producer who`s seen the documentary.
Taken from a 2009 column by Michael Riedel, longtime New York
Post Broadway critic: "
Jane
is the movie Jane Fonda hoped time had forgotten. A brilliant
snapshot of the theater world at the time,
"Jane"
also is a devastating chronicle of what can go wrong behind the
scenes."
Act One - The 1962, 53-minute documentary, which would
fall into the "reality" genre of filmmaking today, chronicles a then
25-year-old Fonda`s every move as she prepares for the ill-fated Broadway
debut of "The Fun Couple." After being written off as a flop, "The Fun
Couple" closed just after two days. Fonda recently described the whole
situation as a "traumatic experience."
Pennebaker follows Fonda and chronicles, boldly, the ups and
downs, the disappointment and disenchantment of Fonda’s whole traumatic
experience, from start to finish.
Act Two - After the screening, Susan Booth, artistic
director of the Alliance Theater, will lead a discussion with
Fonda and breakthrough actress Gabourey
Sidibe, about personal triumph made possible through involvement
in arts and entertainment.
"I feel in many ways it`s about a girl with no voice who let
herself be bullied," says Fonda about the film and
reflecting on that period in her life. "When I wrote my book, "My Life So
Far," I knew I`d have to deal with that period of my life. So I went into
my room, shut the door, pulled down the blinds and watched the movie.""
Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe, best known for her Academy
Award nominated performance in the film "Precious," and currently seen in
Showtime`s "The Big C," joins Jane Fonda onstage
for an in-depth discussion of the obstacles faced in pursuit of success,
the perseverance required to hone one`s craft and the personal triumphs
made possible through involvement in the arts.
Gabourey Sidibe on
"Jane"
the documentary:"I thought the documentary was amazing and raw. A
really intimate view into such a huge insecurity that every actors feels.
It was kind of scary in fact."
