CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOOD TRANSFORMS INTO ARTS DISTRICT

Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival, July 29 to 31, 2011

Artists and arts aficionados will flock to see Chicago’s artistically rich Logan Square neighborhood transform nearly two miles of its commercial corridor along Milwaukee Avenue into a full-blown arts district. With dozens of independently-curated galleries, performance arts, top-shelf local music talent on two stages, Gaztro-Wagon’s mobile food trucks, craft beers provided by Revolution Brewing and more, the 3^rd Annual Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival (MAAF), presented by I Am Logan Square, promises to be the most dynamic arts festival of the summer. The MAAF will take place on Friday July 29, 2011, from 4 to 11 PM and Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and July 31, 2011, from noon to 11 PM along Milwaukee Avenue between Kimball and California.  

“Logan Square has always had a vibrant arts community and it’s only getting better. We hope all of Chicago comes out and celebrates with us during this one-of-a-kind festival,” declares Cara Dehnert Huffman, executive director of I Am Logan Square.

The festival will be replete with lively galleries showcasing works in all media, many of which will be programmed with poetry, dance, performance arts, and musical entertainment. In addition to its pop-up galleries, the 2011 MAAF will also include window installations, theatrical and dance performances, and late-night screenings of local films at the Logan Square Theater. The Main Stage, located at the heart of the Festival near the Monument on Milwaukee and Logan Blvd., as well as the South End Stage, located near Milwaukee and California, will be rockin’ until 11PM each night with performances by critically-acclaimed headliners to be announced. Framing the north end of the festival, the Logan Square Arts Center, located at the corner of Milwaukee/Kimball/Diversey in the Hairpin Lofts, will inaugurate its new 8,000 square foot space with multi-arts performances, visual art exhibits and eclectic music.
