JOZEF ROBAKOWSKI
FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION in the U.S.

Jozef Robakowski is the grand seigneur of Polish expanded cinema. [...] His unique experiments in film and photography from the 1970s are in many ways strongly related to the western Expanded Cinema movement - which he continues with a striking consequence up till today using different media.
- Kata Krasznahorkai

The first U.S. solo exhibition by Jozef Robakowski focuses on his collaborative work from the beginnings in the late 1960s through the present, including his work not only as a veteran avantgarde filmmaker and artist, but also as an initiator and organizer, engaged in dialogue with other artists in collective experimental practice.

The exhibition brings together films and video works such as Market (1970), and Test I (1971), produced within the framework of the Workshop of the Film Form and Attention: Light! (2004); documents and photographs showing the activities of the Workshop of the Film Form; as well as a selection of DVDs, books, catalogs and ephemera produced by and drawn from the collection of the Exchange Gallery, Lodz.

The exhibition opening will be preceded by a roundtable on April 7th with Barbara London (Associate Curator, Department of Media and Performance Art, MoMA New York), Marielle Nitoslawska (Professor in Film Production, Concordia University, Montreal), and the exhibition curators Tobi Maier and Michal Jachula.
