World Heritage Forum Set
Media Release April 08, 2011

For Immediate Release

World Heritage Forum Set

BARTLESVILLE, OK – Price Tower Arts Center invites the community to take part in its World Heritage Forum on Saturday, April 16th.  The event is set for 1 p.m. at the Adams Building Auditorium, ConocoPhillips, located at 411 S. Keeler Avenue.

The Price Tower, Frank Lloyd Wright’s only realized skyscraper, has been included on the United States World Heritage Tentative List.  The nominations of historic natural and cultural properties by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will be considered for World Heritage Site status.  The current listing includes over 900 properties that are considered the planet’s greatest treasures.

“Our World Heritage nomination is part of a serial nomination of 10 buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.  The nomination is meant as a representation of Wright’s greatest works,” said Scott W. Perkins, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions at Price Tower Arts Center.  “Some of the other sites already designated include the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Great Wall of China, Vatican City, the Statue of Liberty, Monticello and Independence Hall.”

The forum will include opening remarks from Eric Lloyd Wright, the grandson of Frank Lloyd Wright, and presentations from Janet Halstead, Executive Director of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy; Lynda Waggoner, Vice President and Director of Fallingwater; and Scott Perkins, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions at Price Tower Arts Center.

There will also be a discussion about the history of the Price Tower, the World Heritage nomination process and the role of the conservancy.  PTAC’s Executive Director Tim Boruff will also moderate a panel discussion involving Phyllis Ellin, Cultural and Natural Partnership Liaison for the National Park Service and U.S. Department of the Interior.

Refreshments will be provided and the forum should wrap up by 2:30 p.m.  For more information about the forum or the nomination process, please call 918.336.4949.
