BC Book Prize Authors Coming to
Vernon
The Vernon branch of the Okanagan Regional Library and
Gallery Vertigo will co-host a reading by three BC authors nominated for 2011 BC
Book Prizes. George Bowering, Julie Flett and Derek Lundy are scheduled to tour
the Okanagan and will be at Gallery Vertigo on Monday, April 18 at 7:00
p.m. They will read from their nominated works and sign books, which will
also be available to purchase. Refreshments will be served.
George Bowering, Canada’s first Poet Laureate, is
nominated in the poetry category for his work titled My Darling Nellie
Grey, which includes poems for each month of the year he experienced in
2006. Julie Flett is nominated for the Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize
for her illustrations in the picture book Owls See Clearly at Night: A Michif
Alphabet. Derek Lundy is nominated for his book Borderlands: Riding the
Edge of America in the non-fiction category, in which he recounts his
experiences riding his motorcycle along the US borders with Mexico and Canada.
Gallery Vertigo is a non-profit Artist Run Centre which
operates under the auspices of the North Okanagan Artists Alternative, a
registered non-profit society and a registered charitable institution. We are
located upstairs at Suite #1, 3001 31st Street, downtown Vernon.
