Program: Jazz Standard proudly presents master drummer Roy Haynes and his Fountain of Youth Band in their very first appearance on our stage. Born in 1925, Roy is the only living and active jazz musician to have worked with Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. His immense discography includes more than 30 albums as a leader, including such classic dates as Out Of The Afternoon (Impulse!, 1962) and Fountain of Youth (Dreyfus, 2004). “By now all the slogans about the miraculous Mr. Haynes have become well-worn clichés – that he’s an ‘ageless wonder’ who has ‘found the fountain of youth’ and plays with a ‘seemingly inexhaustible supply of energy and ideas.’ And they’re all true.” (Bill Milkowski, JazzTimes.com)
