Hopestone Studio Designs Price Tower Jacket
BARTLESVILLE, OK – Price Tower Arts Center is very pleased to announce a collaborative project with Bartlesville-based Hopestone Studio. Designer Lauren Dreilling used a printed linen fabric reproduced from a 1954 collection of textiles and wallpapers designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for F. Schumacher Company in New York City to produce a jacket called the Mary Lou, in honor of the wife of Price Company founder, H. C. Price.
Price Tower Arts Center worked with Schumacher to replicate the original drapery fabric in the H.C. Price Company corporate apartment as part of its 2006 restoration of the Price Tower’s historic interiors. The textile design is an abstract geometric pattern in a variety of red, pink and orange colors printed on Belgian linen. Hopestone Studio used the fabric to create a jacket trimmed with dupioni silk and embellished with hand-made copper buttons by New Jersey artist Amy Volchok of Copperista.
“The buttons add not just a great look to the jacket, but they also pay tribute to the Copper design elements Frank Lloyd Wright used in his only realized skyscraper. It was an honor for us to be able to design these jackets and have them ready in time for the World Heritage Weekend,” said Lauren Dreilling.
The jackets are attractive, stylish and functional. The Mary Lou is a mid-length jacket with side pockets and a collar that can be worn up or down.
“This is the perfect example of a local artist using our historic building for inspiration in creating new works of design. We worked closely with Hopestone to ensure that this limited edition garment celebrates Frank Lloyd Wright’s artistic genius and we are happy that 100% of the profits for each Mary Lou jacket support Price Tower Arts Center’s preservation efforts,” said Scott W. Perkins, curator of collections for Price Tower Arts Center.
The jackets are available at the Wright Place Museum Store and Hopestone Studio. For more information, contact Price Tower Arts Center at 918.336.4949.
