What's In Bloom?
In Bloom coincides not only with southern Connecticut's laurel season but also with GardenFest, which celebrates the Museum's gardens including the hundreds of laurel plantings recently reintroduced onto the grounds of the Museum.

Inspired by the acquisition of Willard Metcalf's Kalmia, the exhibition In Bloom: Moutain Laurel and the Lyme Art Colony relates Metcalf's seminal work to the colonial revival enthusiasm for native laurel. Following Metcalf's example, artists flocked to Old Lyme each June to paint the ephemeral pink and white blossoms, helping to make the subject a signature of the colony. Laurel pictures will be drawn from the Museum's holdings as well as private collections. The exhibition is on view May 6 through June 26.
