Art News:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 13, 2011
As the Museum of Nebraska Art celebrates
the 100th Anniversary of the MONA building and the 35th Anniversary of
the Museum of Nebraska Art, a special award will be presented at a brunch
Sunday, April 17, 2011 to honor Carl (Ky) Rohman, who has made significant
contributions to help fulfill the dream to create a unique collection of
art that tells the story of Nebraska.
Carl (Ky) Rohman was born and grew up
in Lincoln just two blocks south of the State Capitol. He remembers the
Capitol being built and roller skating on its concrete floors before permanent
flooring was installed. He graduated
from the Phillips Exeter Academy prep school in New Hampshire before returning
to the University of Nebraska for his undergraduate education. Rohman then
enrolled in law school at the University, but his education was interrupted
by World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Ky returned
to finish law school before joining his family’s linen supply business
which has seen major growth over the years and is now UniService, still
headquartered in Lincoln. While building the business, he was active in
a number of national industry organizations. Ky’s interest in and support
of the arts is well known throughout Nebraska, including the naming of
galleries in two institutions, the Museum of Nebraska Art and the
Sheldon Museum of Art.
The Sunday brunch is a part of the ESPRIT:
A Taste of Art, exhibition and sale to benefit the Museum of Nebraska Art,
offering 42 artworks for sale, showcasing ceramic, fiber, glass, jewelry,
wood, assemblage. For more information on this award or event please contact
the Museum at (308) 865-8559.
