Sergio Vasquez

are collaborating for the

Trans-Cultural Exchange Conference

.

The visual and audio artist Derek Hoffend working with sculptor, musician and performer Rudi Punzo and architect Sergio Vasquez chose the idea of 'Chance,' as the theme of their collaboration or, as they write, "perhaps, better stated, as how and how much a random occurrence may affect the mixing of rhythm, sound and images to produce a live performance." The artists involved will meet for the first time in the real world after having each worked on his own. The ultimate goal is for each artist to reproduce the same method in different venues for future presentations. MUM stands for Manned and Unmanned, an expression taken from the army and used to designate those vehicles that are either driven by a driver or remotely. Here, MUM refers to those commonly used, low-tech electronic devices that enter in the production and reproduction of sound and images, both analogical and digital.

*Note: Tom Plsek and Emile Tobenfeld first performed together in 1974!*

Doctor T

Emile Tobenfeld (Doctor T) has been doing improvised projections to music since 1974 -- always with the goal of creating Visual Music, a music that combines imagery and sound. His projections are produced by mixing multiple DVD sources with a video mixer and effects processor. The sources consist of computer-manipulated original material derived from his still photography and videography. The original subject matter is usually recognizable, but sometimes processed to complete abstraction. The projections and music respond sometimes directly to each other -- at other times they simply co-exist.

About Mobius:
Mobius (est. 1977) is a non-profit, artist-run organization, whose mission is to generate, shape and test experimental art. The members of the organization believe an effective strategy for supporting this art is to establish grounds that build relationships among fellow artists.  Mobius is committed to structuring environments that foster projects incorporating a wide range of disciplines.  This approach sets in motion situations where the artist's impact can be seen locally, nationally and internationally.  Constructing art initiatives outside accepted frameworks and encouraging animated discourse with the public are fundamental to Mobius.

Founded by Marilyn Arsem in 1977, Mobius is known for incorporating a wide range of the visual, performing, and media arts into innovative live performance, video, installation and intermedia works. Mobius has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally. Works created at Mobius have been presented throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.

Mobius is supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council; the
Boston Cultural Council, a local agency which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, administered by the Mayor's Office of the Arts, Tourism, and Special Events; the Oedipus Foundation; by an award for artistic excellence from the Tanne Foundation; the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and generous private support.
