Aftermath will feature a significant body of works by Ukrainian non-conformist artist Vasily Sad (b.1948) shown in London for the first time. At the heart of the exhibition stands Sad’s metalwork ‘Aftermath - dedication to Chornobyl’ (1986), which sheds light on the artist’s profound reflection of this historic event, destiny, the human condition and the dualism of mankind’s soul.
26 April 1986 - On that day the city of Chornobyl went down into history as the reactor of the nuclear power station exploded and released thirty to forty times the radioactivity of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Being known as one of the greatest industrial accidents of all time, the Chornobyl tragedy demonstrated the gaps in Soviet system and also became a metaphor for the collapsing of the USSR.
This exhibition will be of great interest to contemporary art lovers and those craving for an unusual art experience, raising the questions which are to be answered by each of us.
