We first met many of you at Art Chicago as early as the mid-1990's. You were particularly spirited in your embrace of the photographs by our then-emerging artists Stephane Couturier, Toshio Shibata, DoDo Jin Ming, Peter Bialobrzeski, Ed Burntysky, and Lalla Essaydi.
Denis Darzacq, from Paris, will be showing several works from his acclaimed HYPER series, in which young people jump, twist and turn within colorful commercial interiors.
Continuing our commitment to contemporary photography where color is powerfully and passionately used, we will feature a large installation of recent work by Berlin based photographer Jessica Backhaus. To my mind Backhaus is the strongest colorist in photography today, and her deeply felt images of ordinary objects and places are dazzling and mysterious.
Speaking of mysterious, we will exhibit Burk Uzzle's "Desert Prada, Marfa, Texas," in which art, commerce, fashion and desolation all coalesce into a uniquely American landscape.
Dodo Jin Ming will exhibit for the first time a series of ocean views reverse printed on a delicate Japanese paper. They seem both ancient and modern at the same time.
We will also bring a selection of masterworks by famed photographer Helen Levitt, featuring many of her classic images of New York City in the 1940s.
And of course we will feature both classic 1950's vintage Chicago views as well as new work from his series "Autowackies" by master photographer Ray K. Metzker.
We look forward to seeing you again. Please contact us if you
have any specific requests or questions.
And by the way, anyone have Bull's tickets?
