The Incidentalist Facebook Page The Incidentalist has been set up to encourage the documentation of the ‘unplanned’ or incidental in a creative context. One could argue that there is no such thing as ‘unplanned’ but I would rather not get involved in a philosophical debate about that. If you’re a street photographer, for example, and you go for a walk through a city with your camera, you are planning to take some photographs. However, the shot itself will be largely unplanned. A process painter who pours rather than brushes leaves a lot to chance and gravity. The resulting marks will be unplanned even if there is an idea of a desirable result in-mind. An overheard conversation or chance meeting on the train to work, recorded or transcribed, is unplanned. The Incidentalist is an open project and to overly define it would be a counter productive, the examples above are just examples. Submissions are encouraged.
