Summer Day Camps at the
Museum
Enrollment
is now open for summer day camps for kids ages 7 to
12 at the
San
Bernardino
County
Museum in
Redlands. Sessions
are from 8:30am to
2:30pm, and the
cost is $155 per person per week ($135 for museum members). Extended
camps are also available for an additional $80 per week from 2:30 to
5:30pm.
Growing Up
Serrano: June 20
to 24, or July 25 to 29.
Experience many of the traditional activities of our local Serrano
Indians, including children’s toys and games, tool-making, hunting skills, food,
clothing, houses, trading, basket-weaving, and stories. Campers will be able to
bring home tools, toys, and materials used during camp at the end of the
session. Families are invited to attend a camp “pow-wow” on Friday from
1:30 to
2:30pm.
More
Animals Around Us: June 27
to July 1
Explore the diversity of animal life in our urban environment. Which
animals like to live near humans and which avoid us? Which animals make good
pets and which don’t? Campers will meet some local residents up close and
observe other from a distance. On Friday from 1:30 to
2:30pm, the
families of campers are invited to attend a “Celebration of
Animals.”
Playing
With History: July 11
to 15
Did kids have fun 500 years ago? Was it different 200 or even 100 years
ago? Learn about the first people who lived here and the Spanish and American
settlers who expanded into this area. Find out how your grandparents lived in
the 20th century. At the end of the week, campers’ families will join
campers from 1:30 to
2:30pm for a
“Historic Celebration.”
Art and
Nature: July 18
to 22
Art is all around us, especially in the world of nature. Campers will
study nature closely and learn about color, line, patterns, and more. Nature
will be the inspiration, and provide materials for some artworks. At
1:30pm on
Friday, the families of campers are invited to attend an “Artists’ Reception” to
share art that their young artists have produced.
Grandma’s
Attic: July 6,
7, and 8
A half-day summer camp is available for children ages 4 to 7 accompanied
by an adult. This three-day mini camp will take campers into a simpler time,
when kids made their own fun and imagination ruled. Children and their special
adults will gather in the imaginary attic to play with old-fashioned toys and
games together, learn about animals, and more. Each parent, grandparent, or
adult may bring up to three children to the camp and play alongside with them.
The cost is $75 per child and $65 for museum members. Adults are
free.
Campers must come dressed in comfortable clothing and closed-toe
shoes—sandals or flip-flops are not allowed. Food and beverages are not
provided, so campers must bring their own lunch and snacks. For more information
or to make reservation, call (909) 307-2669 ext. 256 or 271. Summer day camp
application forms are available at the museum or the museum’s website
www.sbcountymuseum.org.
