ABOUT PORNOGRAPHY

Pornography is Simon Stephens' stark and shattering new play that powerfully captures a portrait of a fractured, insecure Britain.  Written in reaction to London crashing from the euphoria and promise at being awarded the 2012 Olympics into the chaos and reality of the 7/7 bombings, the play is composed of seven stories that serve as a countdown to the catastrophic attack on London. Each playlet focuses on a different individual dramatising their life in the run-up to the tragedy.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Kevin Otos is on faculty at Elon University where he teaches a variety of acting courses.  He has also taught at Whitman College and Oklahoma State University, where he served as the Head of Acting.  Kevin has acted and directed throughout the country. His directing credits include: Twelfth Night, and Much Ado about Nothing at the Texas Shakespeare Festival; The Pavilion and Hedda Gabler for Elon University; Measure for Measure and Kind Ness at Oklahoma State University; Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead for Oklahoma City Theatre Company; End Times for the Tulsa Experimental Theatre; and Remember…the Audience for the William Inge Theatre Festival.  Also an actor, some favorite plays include:  The Winter’s Tale (with Michaela Watkins), The Machine (with Ed Asner) and The Cherry Orchard (with William Wise.)  He can also be seen in Seasons 5, 6, and 7 of the television series One Tree Hill in addition to a number of television commercials.  Kevin’s Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting was completed at Florida State University where he studied with a host of outstanding artists including the legendary Tony Award winning interpreter of Eugene O’Neill’s plays, Jose Quintero.  More recently Kevin has been training in the Commedia dell’Arte style in Italy with Fabio Mangolini and Antonio Fava.

* * * * *

The Distillery started in 2009 as a Raleigh based theatre.  Driven by a love to develop creative work in theatre, dance, visual art, and music, The Distillery merged in 2010 into an art collective that gives each creative work its own unique process to distill its highest potency.  The Distillery vows to work as an art collective; be inspired by works of theatre, dance & movement, visual art, & music; give our audience access to works in process and be a part of the development; provide Raleigh with another perspective of theatrical works and create accessibility for experimental & unique works in the arts; create significant creative work that means something, that does something to the individual and to a community, and bring us together and motivate us a whole; and concentrate the essence into an ephemeral yet lingering work that intoxicates the mind and soul.
