On Friday, May 13, our next exhibition, Neighbo(u)rhood, will open with a reception from 6-9pm. Curator-in-Residence Georgina Jackson has invited the following artists to create site-specific installations which reconsiders the idea of the neighborhood here and now: Glenn Loughran, Ferhat Özgür, Seamus Nolan, Sarah Pierce/The Metropolitan Complex, Diane Samuels, John Smith, Elisabeth Subrin and Dawn Weleski.
Neighbo(u)rhood artist Glenn Loughran, working with Tim Cook of the Saxifrage School, will be offering unique no- or low-cost classes under many disciplines including shanty boat construction and the history of the Pittsburgh textile industry. This series of classes entitled PUB:THINK will be held at 120 Federal Street in a vacant pub space. Stay tuned to the PUB:THINK website for upcoming details!

Co-Director Honored by ArtTable at MoMA

Last Saturday on April 16, 2011, Mattress Factory Founder and Co-Director, Barbara Luderowski, was recognized for her contributions to the visual arts during ArtTable’s 30th Anniversary gala celebration at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
ArtTable is the leadership organization for professional women in the visual arts. The organization’s President, Lowery Stokes Sims, notes, “Since our founding in 1980, we have recognized that a network of women leading, managing, and working in the arts is the source of much of the profound growth and change in the art world.” The event was co-chaired by Agnes Gund and Patricia Phelps de Cisneros and attended by 700 ArtTable members and guests.
