The Picture Story John Perkins
				DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS 21 MAY 2011 To accompany the exhibition "Mister President's Circus", photographer John Perkins will run a workshop. The theme is "The Picture Story". Why take more than one picture of the same subject? How does the meaning of pictures change over time? How can a photographer choose pictures from a year's work? How can photographers control how their work is seen? We will look at presenting photo projects in magazines and galleries. Participants will photograph their chosen projects throughout the workshop. Each participant will try to find a unique photographic voice, and will be encouraged to follow a thread to its conclusion. The workshop will conclude with a projection of participants work on 20 June 2011 at Rawabet Theatre. When and where From Friday 27 May 2011 at Townhouse, with sessions on Saturday 28 May, and weekends on 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, and 18 of June. Who can apply Anyone interested in photography, documentary, and/or storytelling is encouraged to apply. The workshop will be limited to 12 participants. To apply, send 5 pictures of your choice on a single theme to th2011@ripserve.com . Think of a beginning, middle and end, of pictures no one else has taken. Submitted pictures should be no larger than 1400 pixels on the longest side. Who John Perkins studied at the London College of Printing, winning an Alexia Foundation (USA) scholarship for work on Palestinian children in Jerusalem. He has reported on surfing in Gaza, prisons in Canada, and migrant labourers in Dubai. In 2002 he was commissioned by Commissions East / the Arts Council (UK) to document telesales workers. He won National Press Photographers Association awards (USA) in 2002, 2005 and 2006, and was selected as one of the Magenta Foundation's (Canada) Emerging Photographers in 2006. In 2007 he taught his first workshop at the Townhouse Gallery in Cairo, "At Home", returning for another entitled "Megacity" in 2009. In 2010 he taught at Jenin Freedom Theatre in Palestine.  He is a regular contributor to the Independent Magazine (UK), and The National magazine (UAE). 				اخر موعد للتقديم يوم ٢١ مايو مع بداية العرض "سيرك السيد الرئيس"، يقوم المصور الفوتوغرافى جون بيركينز بإدارة ورشة عمل عن "قصة الصورة". لماذا تلتقط أكثر من صورة للموضوع الواحد؟ كيف يتغير مدلول الصورة مع الوقت؟ كيف يمكن للمصور أن يختار صورا من أعمال قام بها على مدار سنة؟ كيف يمكن للمصورين أن يتحكموا فى الطريقة التى يرى بها الآخرون أعمالهم؟ فى خلال الورشة، سوف نبحث طريقة تقديم مشاريع التصوير للمجلات والجاليريهات. يقوم المشاركون بتصوير موضوعاتهم خلال الورشة بحيث يحاول كل مشارك أن سوف يحاول أن يجد صوتا فوتوغرافيا خاصا به، وسيتم تشجيعه على تتبع الخيط الفنى الذى يختاره من البداية وحتى النهاية. مع نهاية الورشة يتم عرض اعمال المشاركين فى 20 يونيو 2011 فى مسرح روابط متى وأين تقام الورشة فى التاونهاوس كل جمعة وسبت على مدة أربعة أسابيع: 27 و28 مايو، 3 و4 يونيو، 10 و11 يونيو، 17 و18 يونيو. من يمكنه التقديم أى شخص مهتم بالفوتوغرافيا والتسجيل أو رواية الحكايات يمكنه التقدم تقتصر الورشة على 12 مشارك على الراغبين فى المشاركة إرسال خمسة صور يختارونها حول موضوع واحد ل th2011@ripserve.com . فكر فى البداية والوسط والنهاية وأيضا فى الصور التى لم يتلقطتها أحد قبلك. الصور المقدمة لا يجب أن تكون أكبر من 1400 بيكسل على الأقصى. من درس جون بيركينز درس فى كلية لندن للطباعة ونال منحة من مؤسسة الكسيا (الولايات المتحدة) عمل بمتقضاها مع الأطفال الفلسطينيين فى القدس. وله مواضيع منشورة حول التزلج فى غزة والسجون فى كندا والعمال المهاجرين فى دبى. قام فى 2002 بتصوير تسجيلى لعمال المبيعات التليفونية بناء على طلب مجلس الفنون البريطانى. نال جائزة جمعية المصورين الصحفيين القومية (الولايات المتحدة) أكثر من مرة: فى 2002 و2005 و2006. وتم اختياره كأحد المصورين الصاعدين من قبل مؤسسة ماجنيتا (كندا). فى 2007، قام بتدريس ورشته الأولى فى جاليرى التاونهاوس فى القاهرة، وهى ورشة "فى البيت"، ثم عاد مرة أخرى إلى نفس الجاليرى فى 2009 لينظم ورشة أخرى بعنوان "مدينة هائلة الحجم". فى 2010، قام بالتدريس فى مسرح جنين للحرية فى فلسطين. وهو يساهم بشكل دورى لمجلة "اندبندنت" (المملكة المتحدة) ومجلة "ذا ناشيونال" (الإمارات المتحدة). وقد عاش فى القاهرة من 2007 ويقوم حاليا بوضع كتاب عن السيرك القومى المصرى.
