Tangled (26 April)
Tuesday 26 April in the Robert Sibson Hall at 10.30 a.m.
Walt Disney Pictures presents "Tangled", one of the most hilarious and hair-raising tales ever told.  When the kingdom's most wanted - and most charming - bandit, Flynn Rider, hides out in a mysterious tower, he's taken hostage by Rapunzel, a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical golden hair.  Flynn's curious captor, who's looking for a ticket out of the tower where she's been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief, and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs.  "Tangled" is a story of adventure, heart, humour and hair - lots of hair.
Admission: $2.00

The Queen (28 April)
Thursday 28 April in the Robert Sibson Hall at 7.30 p.m.
The celebrated film is an engrossing, intimate and intelligently witty portrait of some of the monarchy's darkest days in the week following the death of Princess Diana.  "Helen Mirren as the Queen is a sensation" (The Times).
Admission: $3.00  [free to film subscribers]

Donizetti: Mary Stuart (29 April)
Friday 29 April in the Robert Sibson Hall at 6.30 p.m. - with supper interval.
Donizetti's opera offers a great singing-actress tremendous opportunities, especially in the fictitious encounter with her persecutor, Elizabeth I, when royal pride, defiance and finally fury are her undoing, whilst the scenes leading to her execution embrace optimism, regret, love, remorse and despair.  Dame Janet Baker's portrayal was regarded as one of the pinnacles of her career, and she chose the role for her farewell to the London operatic stage in 1982 when this recording was made.
Admission: $3.00  [free to Red Carpet members]

Film: I was a Penguin Zombie (3 May)
Tuesday 3 May in the Robert Sibson Hall at 10.30 a.m.
It's madness, utter madness!  Don't cover your eyes or you'll miss the most daring, mad, shocking Penguins missions ever. Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico come face to face with zombies, robots, spooky noises and a whole lot of frightening fun.
Admission: $2.00

Film: Mao's Last Dancer
(5 May)
Thursday 5 May in the Robert Sibson Hall at 7.30 p.m.
"Mao's Last Dancer" captures the intoxicating effects of first love and celebrity, the pain of exile and ultimately the triumph of individual endeavour over ideology.  It is the true story of a small boy's extraordinary journey from poverty to international stardom, from a gruelling apprenticeship as a classical dancer in communist China to the glory of creative freedom in America.  But there is a painful price to be paid for his quest for self-expression...  "Grand, lucid and absorbing" [The Australian].
Admission: $3.00  [free to film members]

DRAMA, THEATRE & SPOKEN WORD

Patrice Naiambana: Two plays @ Gallery Delta (27, 29 April)

Patrice Naiambana and the British Council present two plays in Harare at the Gallery Delta: An open dress rehearsal of 'The Gospel of Othello' before it premiers at HIFA and a chance to see the sold-out 'The Man Who Committed Thought'.

The Gospel of Othello
Wednesday, 27 April @ 6:30 pm, $3 - Open Dress Rehearsal
Our women bear the pain of absence when our sons and daughters leave home for faraway lands, what strange fruit will our land bear the ancestors of the future?  The love between the 'Black Othello' and the beautiful Italian Desdemona transcends all barriers but this is not enough to avert a tragic train of events.  Will their story uplift or destroy the spirits of his people?  What do Africans make of Shakespeare's portrayal of this son of Africa?  The Gospel of Othello highlights the predicament of Exile.  Conceptualised and facilitated by Patrice Naiambana and his team of African Diaspora collaborators, this play offers us a fresh way of seeing Othello.

The Man Who Committed Thought
Friday, 29 April @ 6:30 pm, $5
Patrice Naiambana, leading actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company, returns to Harare with the tale of an African lawyer much attached to the Queen and Shakespeare, who is caught up in a dangerous search for truth in war torn, post-colonial Sierra Leone.  When he meets Mamadou, a fearless peasant seeking justice for his beloved cow which has been eaten by a greedy dictator, the initially indifferent lawyer embarks on a searing self-examination and commits thought. Is it all in vain? Gallery Delta offers audiences one last chance to catch this sold out HIFA show. The performance will be followed by a post-show discussion with Patrice Naiambana.

Gallery Delta, 'Robert Paul's Old House,' 110 Livingstone Avenue/Ninth Street, Greenwood Park, Harare

CLUBS & SOCIETIES

Association of Complementary Health Practitioners (3 May)
Our monthly gathering for May will take place on the First Tuesday of May, on 3 May, just for this particular talk.
As from June we will meet as usual on the second Tuesday of the month.
Our speaker will be Natalia Baker, from Cape Town, who will expand on her talk last year in which she discussed the Global Events connected with the approach of 2012. We will be meeting at 6.30 pm for 7 pm at Highlands Sports Club, off Sloane St and Glenara Ave. For those of you who were at the talk last year, you will be interested to know more of  the world wide picture, and for those who missed it, you will most surely find this talk unusual and very thought provoking. The talk will be followed by a "Bring and Share Supper' and everyone who attends is asked to bring along a contribution towards the meal, a salad or savoury plate or a pudding. It all adds to the enjoyment of the evening, and the bar will be open for drinks (which the club encourages us to use).  A small donation is requested at the door to cover the cost of renting the hall and towards the assistance of the kitchen staff. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to  new members joining us.
Natalia has explained her talk briefly in the paragraph below.

Living and Loving Consciously by Understanding the Bigger Picture
It is important to see beyond surface happenings to understand what really is happening at this time as it truly helps to pass through this cycle with a measure of equanimity,  grace and ease. Natalia will cover the following in this talk:  convergence of the human and the divine, moving out of duality, the chaos node, earth’s transitioning,  revolution in consciousness creating personal, national and global paradigm shifts,  new technology, the triad of 2010,2011 and 2012, Zimbabwe, inner changes. Are you ready for the ride?

George Fleming House (formerly SACS House) will be celebrating its Centenary in May this year.
We hope that past residents, or their offspring, will take this opportunity to renew friendships and attend our Open Day on Saturday, 28 May, between 10am and 3pm at George Fleming House, Herbert Chitepo Ave (bet 3rd/4th St).
If you, or anyone else who you know, would be interested in attending  this function, please contact Trish McKenzie on <mailto:trishmck@zol.co.zw>,  or Telephone (263 4)764358 or 0712 611 441.
Even if you can't attend, we would love to hear where past residents are now living and what they are doing so we can compile memories - please also circulate to your friends outside the country.
