Gallery Show Press Release 22nd Annual California Clay Competition Exhibit
Date: April 29 – May 27, 2011 Reception: Friday, April 29, 7:00 to 10:00 P.M.
The Artery has sponsored this popular competition since
1990, timing it with the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic
Art. California’s best clay artists “strut their stuff” for this eagerly
anticipated show. The exhibit will feature 39 works from 39 artists chosen by
our juror, Nancy Servis. She is the Executive Director of the Richmond Art
Center in Richmond, California, where she established the Ceramic Study Center
in 2009. Servis is a published author and is currently writing about ceramic
artist Ruth Ripon.
The
highlight of the April 29th reception is the exciting announcement, at 8 p.m.,
of the awards worth over $1500. Award
donors are: The Artery, TRAX Gallery of Berkeley (for a functional pot); The
Association of Clay and Glass Artists in the greater Bay area; and suppliers Aftosa
of Richmond, Alpha Fired Arts of Sacramento, Ceramics and Craft Supply Company
of San Francisco, ClayPeople of Richmond, Clayplanet of Santa Clara, Creative
Ceramics and Glass of Santa Rosa, East Bay Clay of Richmond, Industrial
Minerals Co. of Sacramento, Laguna Clay of City of Industry, Leslie Ceramics of
Berkeley, and Quyle Kilns Clay Company of Murphys.
Since the show continues through
May, the public has time to view the winners and vote for the People's Choice
award. The reception for the 22nd Annual Clay Competition coincides with over
25 clay exhibit openings in Davis that evening. For more information phone 530-758-8330 or visit
www.theartery.net. The Artery is
